Q&A With Nick Becks, PGA

After a recent round at The Glen Club, I had the opportunity to chat with Nick Becks, Head Golf Professional, about the course. Below is a recap from our conversation.

1) What makes your property unique to other courses in area?
The Glen Club is a truly unique facility that offers many different things to many different people. We provide a championship golf course with championship style conditions as well as private club feel that is open to the public. But here at The Glen Club we provide much more than golf itself. We have exceptional hotel rooms, outstanding dining, private meeting space, and an exquisite ballroom. I don't know of any facility in our area that provides the wide range of services that we can provide.

2) What is the signature hole?
The signature hole at The Glen Club is #4. It is a great par 3 with a downhill tee shot to an undulating green. You will find yourself hitting a short to mid iron to the green that is surrounded by tall native grass. Due to the elevation change and swirling winds #4 is different and challenging every time. Par is a great score.

3) What is your favorite hole
There are so many great holes to choose from but my favorite hole has to be number 3. It is rated as the third hardest hole on the course and it requires you to hit two great shots to reach the green. The drive may be one of the most demanding shots on the course. You have to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and the bushes and tall fescue on the right. But if you split the fairway you will more than likely have a mid iron in hands to an elevated green. Make par on this hole and your round is off to a great start.

4) What is the most talked about hole?
The most talked about hole would have to be the par five 18th. It is a great finishing hole that is typically played in three shots. This hole can make or break your round and offers great views of the course from the tee box.

5) The Illinois Golf Hall of Fame is located inside The Glen Club, tell me about this.
Yes!, the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame is located in The Glen Club. The Golf Hall of Fame spans the main level hallways and visitors can come view and read a little about some of Illinois Golf's most influential individuals.
